The Order of St. John of Jerusalem Knights Hospitallers

The Order of St. John of Jerusalem, Knights Hospitallers is one of the Orders of chivalry in existence today. It was granted a charter in 1963 and a constitution in 1964 by His Majesty King Petar II of Yugoslavia. This Order is not the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, better known as the SMOM! It is the King Petar II ecumenical order, also set up to care for Christ's poor. King Petar II went on to become the Order's Grand Master and he was followed by his younger brother, HRH Prince Andrej Karadjordjevic of Yugoslavia.

In 2001 HRH Prince Vladimir Karadjordjevic of Yugoslavia, the eldest son of the late HRH Prince Andrej, was unanimously elected as the Grand Master of this Order and it was at this time that His Royal Highness requested that the Order adopted the Mother and Child Relief Foundation as the official international charity of the OSJ and would go to fully support the foundation in its quest to help those who are still suffering in the former Yugoslavia. This was voted in favour of by all the members of the Sovereign Council of the Order who were present at the 2001 Sovereign Council Meeting in Ipres, Belgium.

Today this Order is collectively responsible for over 75% of all donations made to the Mother and Child Relief Foundation and various groups of members of the Order have traveled to the former Yugoslavia to asses the needs of those people who are require humanitarian aid. This in turn has resulted in some very fundamental charitable activities, a major one being centered on a refugee camp in central Serbia that gives shelter to refugees from many different parts of the former Yugoslavia who were directly affected by the years of bloody conflict. Here, Moslems and Christians live side by side and endure the daily struggles to survive as "forgotten" people.

Together with the officers of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem Knights Hospitallers, the directors of Mother and Child Relief Foundation plan to greatly widen the international scope of their charity work by administering charity to other countries in times of local humanitarian crisis. As the Order of St. John of Jerusalem Knights Hospitaller is also a fully ecumenical organization, which believes in helping all human beings on this planet who are in need, the bonds of humanity between the original Mother and Child Relief Foundation and the were so strong that in the year 2008 the "Foundation" officially changed its name to The Mother and Child Relief Foundation and moved its seat to Great Britain where it is now based as a registered UK Charity with further offices in Germany and Serbia.
