Activities

The humanitarian activities and projects of the Mother and Child Relief Foundation are very varied indeed. From the first day of its existence a decision was made by the board not to narrow the future scope of projects. This in turn has enabled the Foundation to respond to a wide spectrum of needs throughout the former Yugoslavia.

The Mother and Child Relief Foundation plans to continue to respond to both large and small requirements for humanitarian aid. Their Royal highnesses have seen that it is often the case where the smaller needs are lost in the bigger picture and thus a high number of people must go without the help they need simply because their requirements may not be identified so quickly. From just one laptop computer with which to monitor a patients fitness, to a complete operating theatre, The Mother and Child Relief Foundation attempts to respond to both of these requirements with the very same urgency.

Their Royal Highnesses spend much of their time traveling to different events, charity dinners and benefit occasions, taking the message of the dire needs in the former Yugoslavia with them whilst constantly seeking avenues of donations and other forms of help. A great part of their work is the education of institutions and individuals about the current humanitarian crisis that still very much exists across the former Yugoslavia. Princess Brigitta is deeply involved with programs through which she attempts to make people aware of the lack of preventative medical procedures for women in the former Yugoslavia, especially in the fields of breast and cervical cancers. Likewise, Prince Vladimir is involved in trying to obtain funds which can be used for programs through which to check men for colonic and testicular cancers.

A vital part of the work of The Mother and Child Relief Foundation is, of course, the support of as many aspects of child well being as is possible. Infant mortality and sicknesses are abnormally high in some areas of the former Yugoslavia, as they are in many other places across the globe and their Royal highnesses are involved in many activities, from seeking sponsorship for Mother and Child Relief Foundation marathon runners to lobbying medical companies in order to secure continuing donations of medicines and other medical supplies!
